Elements in Design
REFLECTION
Fire Element + Design
When we look to fire, the highest point of energy according to feng shui, we can see the outer flames are a bit wild, and the inner flame is calm and consistent. This mirrors life itself- when we stay focused, life flows smoothly.
Incorporating this element into a space can enhance one's concentration and focus. This can simply be achieved through elements like a fireplace, a collection of candles, or a lantern. Additionally, consider incorporating pyramids, geometric shapes, or utilize warm hues like oranges, reds, and sunset colors to further amplify this effect.
Air Element + Design
Air represents communication and intellect. In design, air is expressed as flow or easeful movement between spaces and objects leading to spacious thought and mind; increasing opportunity for connection with those around us.
Earth Element + Design
The vast expression of the northern lights this month has us focused on the power of the Earth. In the realm of design, Earth evokes feelings of grounding, stability, and comfort. These qualities provide a solid foundation for creativity and life to flourish, inspiring designs that are both robust and nurturing. Earth tones and textures can transform spaces into inviting havens, where creativity is rooted and allowed to grow naturally. Whether it's through the use of natural materials, earthy color palettes, or sustainable practices, incorporating nature elements in design brings perspective of the vastness of existence.
Water Element + Design
Water is a sacred element that sustains life. It’s time we re-familiarize our consciousness with this truth and integrate water elements into design as an invitation into divine universal understanding.
Wood Element + Design
Over the past months, we have touched on the four elements considered in the Western world: fire, air, earth, and water. Taoism, a philosophy that focuses on harmony between humans animals and nature identifies five elements. The five elements- wood, earth, water, fire, and metal- build upon each other or are considered stronger in their order.
Metal Element + Design
Metal is associated with such qualities as clarity, precision, and structure. It symbolizes the end of a cycle, embodying the process of refinement and the manifestation of strength and resilience. It’s archetype is The Alchemist, much like a the goal of a designer, transformation and elevation.
Metal can be integrated into your project through cabinetry details, lighting elements, or furniture pieces to create a sense of order and tranquility, enhancing the overall energy and harmony of your space.
